BLEEDING AND THE CYCLES OF THE MOON🌕
Have you ever wondered how your menstruation cycle may correlate with the phases of the moon?
No? Well, that’s okay, you’d be surprised what you can find out though.
The word ‘menstruation’ comes from the Latin word ‘mensis’ meaning ‘month’ and the Greek word ‘mene’ meaning ‘moon.’
The concept that menstruation is connected to the moon is not new. Similarly, a moon cycle lasts about the same amount of time as an average menstrual cycle (of course, people have different cycles) and if we look into the relationship between our cycles and the moon we may be able to get an understanding of the stages in our lives ~ so it’s not a far stretch to try and understand how each phase of the moon relates to us as individuals.
Each moon cycle corresponds not only with the phases of the moon but the seasons of the year.
Just as Earth moves through seasons, so do our bodies.
Whether our cycles coincide with a time of energy or vibrance, like Spring or Summer, or introspection and rest, like Winter or Fall, you’ll notice that our bodies mirror the ebb and flow of life, mother earth, and the spirit of the moon.
Look at your calendar, see when your next period is scheduled to arrive and then check the phase of the moon- Find out which Moon cycle phases you may be in and what your body may need during that time. Do you find that it resonates with you?
FULL MOON ~ RED MOON CYCLE: Also known as the “Summer Phase” and is associated with channeling energy outward, and embracing the passionate, outgoing side. Being in your healer, teacher, creator cycle. Embracing sexuality/sexual side.
It’s time to step in and exude your power. “Shine like the full moon.”
WANING MOON ~ PURPLE MOON CYCLE: Also known as the “Autumn Phase” and is associated with a Transitional stage. It is a time for ‘moving into the darkness’, a time for self-care and self-focus. For rest and relaxation. To let go of what's not serving you. Enjoy the fruits of your labor; Affirm, “I’ve done the work, now it’s time to rest.”
NEW MOON ~ WHITE MOON CYCLE: Also known as the “Winter Phase” and is associated with a Nurturing stage. It is a time of reflection and introspection. The urge to withdraw may arise and it can be seen as a time for stillness. May also be a time of feeling connected to fertility and the concept of birthing (new projects, new beginnings, etc.) Notice your intuition becoming stronger.
WAXING MOON ~ PINK MOON CYCLE: Also known as the “Spring Phase” and is also associated with a Transitional stage. Although, this is a time of leaving rest and moving into rejuvenation. A time of growing towards something. Also, associated with a self-discovery stage. Feeling of vigor; a feeling of being ‘ready to go forth and take on the world.”
Neither cycle is “better” than one another, and neither is “right” or “wrong”. Just as the moon changes, so do our bodies, and so do our phases. This is merely a way to reflect on the stage we are going through in order to give us some insight on where our focus could be most beneficial and it allows us a deeper understanding of “As Above, So Below. As Within, So Without.”’
So, what moon cycle are you going through?
