GHOST CAT 🐈‍

Sometimes the spiritual beings that inhabit a place are not those of a human form.

No, I’m not talking about angels or demons or beings of “myth”…not just yet, anyway. I’m talking about animal spirits.

I had a ghost cat once.

I had moved into a new apartment and while I’m used to random things happening and chalking it up to ‘spirits’, I never experienced a ghost animal before this.

So, how did I come to this realization?

Well, I had heard the creeks in the house, I had felt the “being watched” randomly, but as I previously mentioned, I was accustomed to those types of things happening in the places I’ve lived…but besides what I’ll call the “normal ghostly occupants that seem to pass-through", I noticed that there would be moments where I would see the shadow in my periphery and immediately my mind would go, “Oh, that’s just the cat…” before coming to the realization that I do not own a cat.

Other times the shadowy movement would feel/seem cat-like in the sense that it would “jump” from the floor to countertops or vice-versa and the ‘shadow’ seemed to be in the shape of a cat in my peripheral and again, my mind would say, “Oh, that’s just the cat.”

Now, I know to some it may seem far-fetched or even silly. Some people will also be like, “Oh, hell no, you’re too chill about it,” and so on, but I felt no malice from this spirit.

In fact, I kind of miss my ghost cat. Sometimes I wish that I could’ve taken it with me to my new home but I honestly didn’t even think if it was possible when moving, lol.

But I do think about it every now and then. I never named it because I liked saying, ‘ghost cat’, lol. In my mind it was a black or dark-striped cat, slender and soft, and sometimes I think it hopped on my bed at night because I could feel the small pitter-patter. Now, don’t get me wrong, it’s freaky when it happens, lol. But the fact that I never felt ‘unsafe’ when it was around honestly made it easier to “normalize”.

There were other times in the house where I felt like I was being watched or heard footsteps, not by the cat, and those times I’d be aware of ‘something else’ and sometimes I would have trouble sleeping and whatnot, but as I said, I never felt unsafe with the cat spirit specifically. [On a side note, I want to say I didn’t feel unsafe spirits in my house, there’s just some things that happen that can be jarring at times, like, we’re human- fear is innate, lol, if you hear footsteps coming down your hall and no one else is in the house, you’re gonna be a little freaked out… this is normal, but I’m not implying that there was any malevolent spirits in my previous apartment nor am I implying that ‘bad’ spirits follow me or something, I’m just trying to get you to understand the difference I felt with the ‘cat’ and to me just knowing that it was not “evil”.]

Now, in speaking about this, some people may question if this was a Familiar. Familiars are not just ‘domestic animals’ that most of us know to help witches in their spiritual workings but can come in different forms. You see, Familiars “were believed to be supernatural entities or spiritual guardians that would protect or assist witches and cunning folk in their practice of magic. According to records of the time, those alleging to have had contact with familiar spirits reported that they could manifest as numerous forms, usually as an animal, but sometimes as a human or humanoid figure, and were described as "clearly defined, three-dimensional... forms, vivid with color and animated with movement and sound", as opposed to descriptions of ghosts with their "smoky, undefined form[s]".” This description plus my experience lead me to believe the ghost cat was solely a pre-living creature now in spirit form.

But, of course, I can’t say for sure. I’m just sharing my own view and my thoughts in tending to lean more towards the spirit of a cat only because it was specifically in this house and it just felt more like a ‘corporeal cat’ in its mannerisms.

Now why do I think this ‘ghost cat’ was a animal spirit and not a 'spirit animal'?

Overall, I can’t say for sure that it wasn’t, but the vibe; the feeling surrounding it, gave me more of a ‘regular -used to be corporeal- cat’. The way I would randomly notice it, and in the way of its actions, jumping here and there, it felt more like a pet than a guide. (Not saying pets can't be guides in some ways but I hope you’re following what I’m trying to convey.) But again, I can’t say for sure, so I’ll let you decide.

Now, I also want to point out that I do not believe the cat to be a 'spirit animal' because when I think of spirit animals, I think of spirits that come in the form of certain animals to guide us during certain times. I mean, again, I cannot say for sure because, granted, it was present with me during a time of great change/transformation as well as the concept that it may have protected me and/or guided me in ways I did not see, but when I think of a spirit animal or when I have experienced a spirit animal in the past it was a little different.  And for me, in the past, the spirit animal did not hold ‘physical realm tendencies’ nor did I see it in the way that I had seen this ghost cat, but again, I cannot say for sure, all I know is that I am grateful for my experience with this animal spirit and as I said, I miss it. Maybe in the future I will be fortunate enough to be granted another encounter with an animal spirit, but I know I'll never forget this one.

Anyway, the point of this entry was really just to explain my experience because I have been randomly thinking of the cat lately and I thought it'd be cool to share with all of you.

I’d love to hear if any of you have had experiences with any types of ghosts, spirits, and so on? Please, let me know and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask! If you want to discuss these things further, please, subscribe to the blog and leave a comment!
